  1. ATI mach32 beta build 46, 11/04/92,  Windows 3.1 driver release notes.
  2.  
  3. This is the latest build of the mach32 driver (and supporting files) for
  4. Windows 3.1. It works with the GRAPHICS ULTRA PRO and the GRAPHICS ULTRA+
  5. graphics accelerators.  OEM mach32 based products may use this driver but 
  6. the features are dependent upon the configuration of the OEM board. This 
  7. build (46) provides the following support above the original shipped driver:

  9. * Accelerated 24bpp color, now 25% faster than build 45.  
  10.   Keep in mind 24 bit support is still beta, please email any problems to 
  11.   ATI Driver Development.
  12.  
  13. Note:  640x480 24bpp requires 1MB of RAM minimum, 800x600 24bpp requires 2MB 
  14. of RAM.
  15.  
  16. *  This build of the Mach32 driver is designed for ISA systems with more than
  17.    10MB of system memory, but will support any Graphics Ultra Pro (ISA) card.
  18. *  Aperture support for ISA systems regardless of the amount of system memory. 
  19.    This means that you may use all the features of your mach32 board on an 
  20.    ISA machine even if you have more than 12MB of system memory.
  21. *  Greater performance than previous builds.  
  22.    1024x768 at 256 colors is now over 26 million winmarks (and still climbing)    
  23. *  Bug fixes from build 45

  25. Please use this beta version as such, newer versions of the driver will 
  26. be uploaded as they become available.

  28. This driver is in beta form and has been released with no implied warranties 
  29. and or guarantees of functionality.  Any questions or problem reports should

  49. The drivers enclosed in this archive are designed to run with Microsoft
  50. Windows 3.1 and ATI Mach32 Accelerator cards.  
  51. To install these drivers please follow the instructions outlined below.  
  52. For Network Installations, please see "Network Installation" below.

  54. *IMPORTANT:  The Mach32 Windows 3.1 drivers must first be installed
  55. from the ATI supplied Graphics Ultra Pro/+ diskettes.  Please run
  56. the INSTALL utility from diskette #1 to first install the Windows
  57. 3.1 drivers.

  60. Easy Installation
  61. -----------------
  62.  
  63. 1) Run the INSTALL.BAT batch file in this archive. Specifying the path to 
  64.    your Windows directory on the command line.
  65.  
  66.      Example:

  68.    INSTALL C:\WINDOWS <enter>
  69.  
  70. 2) After installing the drivers run the Windows SETUP program, reconfigure 
  71.    Windows for the MACH32 driver, and  run Windows.

  74. Manual Installation
  75. -------------------

  77. 1) Run M32BTA.EXE with the following syntax:
  78.  
  79.    M32BTA /EC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM <enter>
  80.  
  81.    NOTE: If you Windows directory is not C:\WINDOWS, then specify that 
  82.          path you are using (ie. C:\WIN31)
  83.  
  84. 2) Run the Windows SETUP, reconfigure Windows for the MACH32 driver, and
  85.    run Windows.

  88. Network Installation
  89. --------------------

  91. 1) Run the INSTALL.BAT file specifying the path to your personal
  92.    Windows directory and the NET keyword:

  94.    Example:

  96.    INSTALL W:\WIN31 NET <enter>
  97.  
  98.  
  99. 2) Run the Windows SETUP, reconfigure Windows for the MACH32 driver, and
  100.    run Windows.

  102. To activate 24-bit true color change the line in your WIN.INI file that 
  103. reads "PixelDepth=#" to "PixelDepth=24".    
  104.  
  105. This driver will work with all versions of mach32 based products.  
  106. 24-bit true color requires the ATI 68875 RAMDAC to be installed on the card.

  108. If you experience any problems with the new drivers you may use the main 
  109. ATI install program included with your card to place the original drivers 
  110. back into your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
